Turn it on !
When you want to illuminate
a room is enough
pressing a switch on
lamp or bulb for light .
How does a switch work?

Materials needed

  • 1 bulbHow a Switch Works Science Experiment How-a-switch-works-science-experiment

  • 1 Flat battery 4.5 volts

  • one clip

  • two studs

  • 1 square of heavy cardboard ( 5cm. side )

Experience

  1. Moor thread each battery terminal. Fixed the other end of the first cable to the cardboard with tack.

  2. Place the clip between the first wire and tack. Sets the third wire on the cardboard with another tack.

  3. With the other end of the third wire, wrapped the base of the bulb and the end that was attached to the free end of the second cable to the base of the bulb.

  4. Spin on the clip so that it is sometimes in contact with the two studs and some not. What do you notice?

The explanation
The bulb lights when the clip is attached with tacks . The current produced
the stack flows through the wire as on the road, gets inside the bulb ,
circulates within the filament and heats : the bulb lights up.
Locating the clip between the two studs, the two wires together in a full circle ,
in which current can flow .
When the clip is at the side , the air and the cardboard are between him and the tack . air
and cardboard are insulators, do not let electricity. The short circuit current and
no longer happens.
A switch opens and closes an electrical circuit. When closed , the circuit is
closed circle , in which the current flows . When opened , the current and
can not circulate.

application
The lamps are lit , the toaster
heated , vacuum cleaners suck , radios
are operated . these objects
that light , heat , or move
produce sound , they all need
outlet. Whenever
oppress a switch, closed a
circuit current will be able to move or
opened a electrical circuit and the current is not
may circulate more . Each electrical appliance
form part of a circuit , usually
Invisible , located inside the
walls of houses and buildings.
