1. Open your image in photoshop. Click image=> mode=> RGB. Duplicate the background. turn the background copy off. 2. Click on your background layer. Insert a layer called gleam by clicking the icon on the bottom of the layers panel. Hit your D key followed by your X key to make white your background color. Select your 5 pixel soft brush and click on this image where the gleam in the eyes are to redraw them. 3. Click back on your background layer. Insert a layer called pupil by clicking the icon on the bottom of the layers panel. Use the elliptical marquee set at a fixed size of 20 pixels by 20 pixels to select your pupil of the right eye. Hit your X key and then select your Paint Bucket tool and fill with black. On the same layer use the elliptical marquee tool set to 20 pixel by 20 pixel to select the left eye pupil. Fill this selection with black. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]4. Click on the background layer and insert a new layer called iris. Set the elliptical marquee to a set size of 40 pixels by 40 pixels and click over the eye. Set the foreground color to hex #70701D and background color to hex #EDC482, making sure web safe colors is unchecked in your color picker. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] 5. Select the gradient tool, set to radial gradient and draw a gradient from the center of the selection to the outside. Then click Filter=>noise=>Add noise.
6. Duplicate the iris layer and use the move tool to place the new iris over the other eye. Click Layer merge down to merge the two eyeballs. Lock this layer. 7. Add a layer mask to the background copy and use your black 19 pixel hard brush on the mask to paint the eyeballs inside the eye sockets. This should be two overlapping clicks on each eye to cover the entire iris. Lock this layer. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] 8. Switch to image ready by clicking the button on the bottom of the tools palette.9.Open your animation palette. Duplicate the current frame by clicking the button on the bottom of the animation palette. click back on frame 1. 10. Frame treatment:

Click the right handed carrot in the upper right hand side of the animation to open the animation palette menu. Select tween.[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] Set the tween to the following:
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]12. Click on frame 2 and holding your shift key down click on frame 3 so both frame 2 and 3 are highlighted. Click the carrot on the upper right of your animation palette and select copy frames. Click on frame 4 and click the animation palette menu and select paste frames. Set the paste frames menu to paste after selection. 13. With the two new frames highlighted, click the animation panel carrot to open its menu and select reverse frames. 14. Use the move tool on each frame to modify the pupils layer to be up in frames 2 and 3, and down in frames 5 and 6. 15. Click on frame 2 and duplicate frame. On the new frame 3, turn off theeye on the iris and pupil layers. 16. Timing: Set the timing for all frames except frame 3 to 0.1 seconds. Set frame 3 to 2.0 seconds. Set the animation to forever. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] 17. Optimizing your animation. Crop your image and slice the image to optimize. Crop to remove the excess up top to reduce image size. Then slice using the slice tool to isolate the animated eyes on their on slice. Use the slice select tool to set the other slices to jpg at 40% or lower quality on the optimize panel. Select the eyes slice using the slice select tool. Set the eyes slice to gif At 256 colors.18. Click Save optimized as. Set the file types to html and images. You will get an error message that jpg, png and wbmp can not be saved as animation, do you want to continue. As long as you set the eyes slice to gif, you will get the animation. the other slices save best as jpg. |
