1 To start with, put all of the existing brushes in the default brush box in the trashcan.

2 Use the same procedure under Swatches.

3 Gradients are not allowed under new brushes so toss that idea aside when creating new ones.
Form four rectangles with the Rectangle Tool (Control+M). Colour them.
4 Press Control+A to select all. Hold the Shift key down and with the Selection Tool highlighted; decrease the size of the rectangles. Drag it onto the Swatches palette.

5 Rotate it and drag it again onto the Swatches palette.

6 Make a circle. Copy it by pressing Control+C. Press Control+F to paste it in front. Change its colour. Choose both the circles, then reduce their size. Drag it onto the Swatches palette.

7 Reduce it once more and change the colour of the centre circle. Drag it onto the Swatches palette.

9 Double-click on each of the swatch and name it.
10 Choose the vertical bar and under the brushes arrow pick New Brush.
11 Highlight New Pattern Brush.
12 Give a name to the brush.

13 Click on each brush square and choose the appropriate swatch. Look at the little diagrams below each swatch square to determine the direction of the pattern.

14 Set the brush up. You're done.
