You can make this interesting magnified effect by using Photoshop combined with Image Ready, which comes with Photoshop.

butterfly

1. Open your image
2. Right click on your background layer and select duplicate layer. turn duplicate layer eye off
3. Click on the background layer.
4. Click filter=>liquefy

Select the 5th tool on the left, the Bloat Tool.
Select brush size 65 on the right.
Select brush pressure as 50
Draw the image out from the center of each area working out a larger image from the center.
Click OK.

5. Click on the "background copy layer" and turn the eye on.
6. Insert new layer by clicking layer => New => layer.
7. Draw a circle about 140 pixel radius by selecting the elliptical marquee, holding the shift key down while you draw..
8. Select white as foreground color, Using fill tool fill circle with white.

10. Highlight the Bevel-Emboss option

Set to inner bevel
technique = smooth
Depth = 61
direction = down
Size ~60
Soften ~10
Angle = 30
Attitude = 30

Blending is normal
Opacity = 100%
Distance =6 pixels
Spread=7%
Size=5 px

blending = multiply
angle = 0
distance =11 px
choke = 0%
size = 13px

Set size to 1
Opacity to 100
color to black

Set the ADVANCED blending to Fill Opacity 0%
Set the Knockout to DEEP

16. Highlight layer 1 on the layers panel in image ready.
17. Open the animations panel. If it is not visible, click Window => Show Animation

Using the Move tool, Move the "lens" on layer 1 over the head of the butterfly.
Click the 0 sec below frame #1 and select 0.2 seconds.
Click the duplicate frame icon on the bottom of the animation panel.

19. Frame 2

Use your Move tool to move the lens on layer 1 down the body to include the head and body.
Set the time for this frame to 0.1 seconds.
Click on duplicate frame icon on the bottom of the animation panel.

20. Frame 3

Use the move tool on to move the lens down the body so that the head is no longer in view, but the body and the ends of the wings are there.
Click on the duplicate frame icon on the bottom of the animation panel.

20. Frame 4

Move the lens with the move tool so that it is over half the bottom of the wings and half off the image.
Set the time by clicking the time below the frame and selecting 0.2 seconds.
Click on the duplicate frame icon on the bottom of the animation panel.

21. Frame 5

Use the move tool on to move the lens down the body so that the head is no longer in view, but the body and the ends of the wings are there. (like frame 3)
Set time of this frame to 0.1 seconds
Click on the duplicate frame icon on the bottom of the animation panel.

22. Frame 6

Use your Move tool to move the lens on layer 1 down the body to include the head and body. (like frame 2)
Click on duplicate frame icon on the bottom of the animation panel.

23. Saving the animation

Open your Optimize Panel. If you do not see it, click window => show optimize.
Set the image type to GIF, Set the colors down from 256 till you see a loss, and then set it up.
Click File => Save Optimized
Select Gif.

Note that this image will make a huge animated gif. You can reduce image size of the PSD right here in image ready to make your image a more reasonable size.
