We are using the Latin text shown below for this tutorial. We are about to learn how to generate styles for the characters and paragraphs. Styles are just formatting that you can revisit and apply to text and paragraphs at any given time.

Go to Window > Type and then choose Character Styles and Paragraph Styles you like.

Below is the dialogue box for Character and Paragraph Styles. The Normal Character Style applied to the text is the default version.

To form a new style, click on the Create New Style button and double click on the new style.
The Character Style Options dialog box appears. Give it a unique name.

Go to each of the selection located on the left hand side. Start making the changes you want to create.

Follow the same method for Paragraph Styles.

First, you must apply the default character style to the text to facilitate Paragraph Styles. Otherwise you'll continue to see the unique character styles still applied. The first text below is done in Character Style while the second text is done in Paragraph Style.]
