HOW TO PROCEED [PROCEDURE]
- A large coffee can with a plastic lid is best suitable for this experiment. Ask an adult or your parents to help with this! Use a hammer and a nail to punch a hole in the centre of the bottom of a large tin can. Turn the can the other way around and punch a similar hole in the centre of the plastic lid of the can. The holes need to be large enough for a thick rubber band to fit through!
- Now, slip a strong rubber band through the hole in the bottom of the can, so that a loop is visible on the outside. Put a nail through the loop and fix it in place with strong sticky tape as in the diagram above.
- Slip some weights over the rubber band on the inside of the can in the form of steel washers, nuts etc. and fix them together with sticky tape in the centre between the bottom and the lid of the can.
