The Clothing Designer Suite of tools enables Poser users
to create their own clothing models within Poser.

Basic Clothing
Scissors
OBJ2CR2 File Converter
A set of generic clothing models that may be used to form the starting point for your designs.A tool to cut imported OBJ files and library props.Easily convert imported OBJ files or library clothing props into conforming figures.
To provide the maximum degree of flexibility the modules are autonomous. One is not dependent on the other. You do not need to purchase all three. (Although naturally I would encourage you to do so Smile For example the Scissors are not restricted to cutting just these basic clothing. They will cut any imported OBJ file or library prop. Similarly you do not have to use the Scissors, the basic clothing may be cut down using the Poser grouping tool or exported into a third party modeling application for additional editing. Also the OBJ2CR2 file converter is not the only method by which the basic clothing may be converted into conforming clothing.
Please walk through these instructions carefully. One should never run with scissors.

To start the script go to the Poser menu File/Run Python Script and browse to Runtime\Python\poserScripts\PhilC\Scissors\start_scissors.py Then use the Poser menu Window/Python Scripts to see the buttons displayed below.
Ensure that the Poser option to save compressed files is turned OFF in the Poser General preferences.
If you wish this script to be permanently displayed as one of your main buttons edit your mainButtons.py file with this line:-
poser.DefineScriptButton(10, ":Runtime:Python:poserScripts:PhilC:Scissors:start_scissors.py", "Scissors")

In the example below the P4 catsuit's OBJ file has been imported into the scene. Scissors will work on an imported OBJ file or library prop. It is not designed to work on a figure. Shaped cutters have then been loaded from the Prop library. You'll find them in the PhilC Designs:Scissors folder. In the scene below everything that is directly behind the red shapes will be cut away from the catsuit mesh. Tools are included to mirror cutters from one side to another. Cutters may be overlapped, scaled and rotated. Cutters may be set to cut all the way through, just the front or just the rear. It is recommended that you view the scene using the front camera when positioning the front cutters. If required you can make your own custom cutters providing that you retain the same naming convention as those provided. Side and top cutters are also provided. For more complex shapes the "Dots" should be used.
Import an OBJ file or load a prop from the library. Using Scissors on a figure can be dangerous and cause permanent injury.

Poser 5 does not have as wide a range of Python functions as later versions, so at this point Poser 5 users need to take an important step. Select the clothing to make it the active object in the scene, then save it to the Prop library PhilC DesignsScissors folder. Save with the name "temp". Do not delete it from the scene, just save a temporary copy to the prop library. This file will be used to store the material information that is automatically added to the finished work. Poser 6 users do not need to make step.
When everything is to your liking ensure that you have the mesh that is to be cut selected then click the "Perform Cuts" button. Poser 6 users will get a pop up OK/Cancel to help ensure that they have the correct item selected.

The result will be similar to the image to the right. Save the model as a prop or export out of Poser as required.
For more complex shaped cuts use the Dots.
When loaded dots will be sequentially numbered. They must then be arranged in sequence in a clock wise direction. Best to space them so that their green cross hairs still touch the cross hairs of the adjacent dot. Copy/Paste dot location buttons are provided. These can speed up loading or aligning.
The workflow will be:-

  1. Load the first dot. A front dot will load near the floor.
  2. Move the dot into position.
  3. With the dot still selected click the Copy Dot Location button.
  4. Zoom in to the work area with the camera as required.
  5. Load the next dot, it will load near the floor, probably now out of view.
  6. With the new dot selected click the Paste Dot Location button. The new dot will be positioned over the first dot but will be in the field of view.
  7. Now move the dot into its final position

My reasoning for including the Copy/Paste location buttons is that when loading dots you will probable have the view zoomed into a close up area. The Copy/Paste will quickly bring the new dot into the field of view and save continually panning in and out with the camera.

Poser Tip:-
If you hold down the Shift key whilst using the Poser Translate tool you will avoid accidentally reselecting and moving some other object.
When complete click the "Connect Front Dots" button to generate the actual cutter. Poser 6 and later you'll see the popup shown above, left. In this example the right hand cutter was created then the Mirror Selected Cutter button used to create the cutter for the left hand side.
Once the cutter has been created you can use the "Delete Front Dots" button to remove the dots.
I recommend using the front camera when working with the front Dots. It makes no difference what the distance the Dot is away from the model (zTrans).
Side & Top Dots are also provided.
When everything is to your liking click the "Perform Cuts" button. The result will be similar to the image to the right.

Save the model as a prop or export out of Poser as required.

Multiple cuts are possible however please note that no additional vertices are created or edges subdivided. The mesh is aligned to the cutters. The reason for doing it this way is to provide a much more Cloth Room friendly mesh. Higher resolution meshes and cutters produce better results than lower resolution. You can increase the mesh resolution by using the Utility tools. Material information is carried through from the original. UV data is retained, though some minor adjustments may be required at cut edges because the vertices will have moved very slightly in 3D space. Because the script groups the mesh into what is to be kept and discarded the original grouping data is not retained.
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]Utility tools are provided should you wish to increase the mesh resolution.
With the mesh object selected in the scene click the first button to triangulate all the square polygons. Then click the second one to subdivide all the triangles.
Material, grouping and UV mapping data is retained.
Spherify Actor is just a fun utility that will turn the selected actor into a ball. Use small values to start with until you get a feel for it. For Poser 5 this value is preset at 0.05
Load Library file will allow you to load any library file, figure, prop, hair etc by browsing for it. The file need not be within the Poser library.
And here is a freebie:-

Notes

  1. Scaling the geometric cutters smaller is not a problem but avoid scaling them too large. Where larger cutters are required the dot method should be employed.
  2. Avoid using the dots to make concave shapes. Make the shape with a number of smaller cutters instead. Its not a problem overlapping the cutters.
  3. The contents of the Scissors:temp folder may be safely deleted after closing Poser.
Registering the plug in
The plug in needs to be registered before it can be used. Details are in the readme.]
