The Shoe Converter provides a method whereby shoes created for one Poser figure may be refitted to suit another.
This is not a "one click" solution. Some degree of skill is required. It can accommodate boots up to below the knee. Detailing such as buckles and laces is for the most part retained. Note that whatever usage restrictions applied to the original will apply to the converted shoe.
Registering the plug in
The plug in needs to be registered before it can be used. Details are in the readme.
License details.

Installation.
See the readme.txt file also http://www.philc.net/WinZip_tutorial.php
If on a Mac extract to a temp folder and copy files over.

Start the script by using the Poser menu WindowPython scripts. Click on an empty button, or if none available use the Poser menu FileRun Python script and browse to RuntimePythonposerScriptsPhilCShoe Converterstart_ShoeConverter.py
If you wish to have the Shoe Converter as one of the default Python buttons edit mainButtons.py with this line:-
poser.DefineScriptButton(9, ":Runtime:Python:PoserScripts:PhilC:Shoe Designer:start_ShoeDesigner.py", "Shoe Designer")

Poser 7 users may use the starter script in the Poser ScriptPhilC menu but you will still need to open the Python script window manually.
Method

Load Cobbler's Last
(A "last" was the former a cobbler used to mend shoes on.)
Three versions are supplied suitable for flat, high heeled and children's' shoes
The illustration shown here is the P4 High Heeled shoe which will be converted to fit V4
Align Right Shoe

  1. Load your shoe figure.
  2. Select its BODY.
  3. Now position and scale the BODY so that the ankle of the right foot superimposes the ankle of the "Cobblers Last" prop and is of a comparable size.
  4. Rotate the shoe's right foot and toe to align to the prop. You'll only need to rotate the shin if it is significantly out of vertical. Absolute accuracy is not required, if it looks in line then it probably is. You can totally ignore what is happening to the left shoe. If your shoes are supplied as a separate right and left shoe figure just use the right shoe. You may find it helpful to have all IK chains turned off.

To emphasize the point, this should be a quick alignment. Do not spend time trying to perfectly fit the shoe to the prop.
The last should not be moved, (its dials are hidden for this very reason). You may want to set the ground plane invisible and turn Display Shadows off.
Create Dummy Shoe.
The difficulty with trying to get an existing shoe to fit another figure is that whilst all the joints and rotation centers are perfect for conforming to its intended figure they totally work against you when you try and maneuver the shoe to fit another figure.
The Shoe Converter automatically creates a dummy shoe in which all the control elements are set to make manipulation straight forward.
You may want to set the Poser display option to hide deformers at this time.
Next load the figure that will be wearing the shoes and set into its zero pose using the button provided.
Notice in this worst case scenario the difference in the angle of the shoe to the zero posed V4 figure's feet.

The best work flow will be

  1. Select the shoe's BODY
  2. Adjust the over all position and scale so that the ankle and heel of the shoe matches the ankle and heel of the figure.
  3. Select the shoe's foot and rotate to align with the figure's foot. Notice that the foot rotates easily about its ankle making alignment very straight forward.
  4. Select the shoe's shin and rotate to align with the figure's shin. Same as with the foot the shin will rotate about the ankle. The original shoe rotated about its knee which would make alignment very difficult.
  5. Select the shoe's toe and rotate to align with the figure's toe.
  6. The dummy shoe has a number of magnets preloaded into it. You can almost forget that they are magnets. Simple select an area that needs to be adjusted from the list provided. Then use the Poser Parameter Dials to move/scale/rotate that section of the shoe. I suggest that you use the Poser menu:- Display --> Deformers --> Hide All to give you an uncluttered view.
  7. When you are satisfied with the fit of the shoe click the "Make Conforming Pair" button.

Should you feel the need to change any of the Magnet Base or Magnet Zone parameters you can select them from the Poser drop down prop list and change the display option to make them visible.
You are at liberty to add magnets if required. You may for example need to add one to realign the angle of a very high stiletto heel. If more than nine are used the quick select Python script button menu will alter to suit.
Make Conforming Pair
When you are satisfied with the fit of the shoe click the "Make Conforming Pair" button.
The script will create the matching shoe for the left foot and combine both the left and right shoes into a single figure that will conform to the base figure.
You can then save the shoes to the Figure Library. All the original UV mapping, materials and textures will have been retained.
Very little if any joint parameter adjustment should be required. See Tutorial 2 for details
A very wide range of figures are supported. Click here for details. If you find that the one you are using is not, then options exist to address that.

Low polygon Poser 4 Hi Heel pumps converted to V4
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]Utilities
A number of utilities are provided to aid in the conversion.
When creating any conforming clothing it is essential that the clothing is made to fit the figure when in its zero pose.
Super Zero Figure will zero absolutely everything with the exception of the model's age Smile
Zero Pose will set all body part rotations and translations to zero. Any magnets assigned to the figure will be unaffected.
Zero Morphs will just zero out any morphs in the figure.
Inflate/Deflate will allow you to expand or contract the model. Further menus allow you to select part or all of the model.
Shift. Some figures are not perfectly symmetrical. The shift utility allows you to "nudge" the converted shoe slightly if required.
Select Magnets gives access to the "Dummy Shoe Magnets" as outlined above.
Version will give a screen print out of the script version number, various Poser and system information plus the name and address of the registered user.
List Supported Figures. Displays a list of the supported figures along with their respective geometry files. This list is then saved as a text file in order that you may more easily review it. At the time of writing 125 figures are supported. Click here for details. Note that a number of figures are interchangable. For example all the Poser G2 males have identically shaped and jointed feet as do the G2 females. If KojiG2 is not listed simply use JamesG2.
Not as I say a one click solution but a method that makes a very difficult task straightforward whilst for the most part retaining detail.
